14 years ago, there was a mass shooting at Virginia Tech University. My eldest was in Junior High, my youngster was... NOT in Junior High (more like 1st grade or something), and all my MamaBear urges roared out and said, Must teach kids self-defense!   And that, of course, meant taking karate lessons.

And, I might add, it also ended up with me taking over their admittedly notGood website to see if I could improve their rankings from under the Pacific Rim trench to somewhere around sea-level.

Being an admittedly unconventional thinker, not only did I manage to get our dojo ranked #1 for karate in NJ, I also got us ranked #1 for any town within my county followed by the word, school.

ie, west orange schools, livingston schools, etc.etc.etc.

Except... that was via a karate dojo site!   And zero blackHat techniques were used - I just knew how to build a following.

Nowadays, of course, social media makes it 'waay simpler to rank for such community thingees.   But oh, once you're recognized as THE Local Expert of Choice, finding clients becomes far far easier.
