Most Kindle Unlimited books follow the same pattern.

 Strong download numbers in the first week. Reasonable page reads for the first couple of chapters.

But then? It starts to fade - readers drifting away, the algorithm cooling and earnings dropping to almost nothing.

Most authors assume this is a traffic problem. They go looking for more downloads, more visibility or better keywords.

However:

It's not a traffic problem. 

Instead, it's a retention problem.

Readers aren't leaving because they lost interest in the topic.  Not at all!

They're leaving because the book stopped compelling them to keep reading.

Well, Amanda figured out something took her from a
standing start to 18,132,527 KU page reads.
